’Each entity as the subject of law has social and environmental responsibility’, as stipulated in Article 2 of Government Regulation No 47/2012 on Social and Environmental Responsibility of Private Company. This means that once the government regulation is signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on 4 April 2012, all companies in Indonesia – particularly public companies – must abide by the regulation.

 

With such regulation, the Company must allocate special budget to finance corporate social responsibility. For companies violating this regulation, they will be penalized based on the prevailing regulations.

 

HITS from time to time always performs CSR. Indeed, so far the Company still focuses more on its employees, but gradually, it widens coverage to the society sustainably.

 

Environment

In terms of operational activity which concerns the environment, the Company utilizes system, technology, method, and materials with positive impact on the environment.

Besides, employees are urged to care more for enfironmental management. As for vessel crews, they are required to boost activity of identifying, evaluating, and controlling the danger of sea pollution and issues of working safety.

Labor Practice

Employees are assets for HITS, hence, their welfare must always be prioritized and improved to motivate and produce good performance as well as maintaning it. The management always communicates with employees directly or indirectly.

 

Direct communication is delivered in a meeting bearing the theme of agent of change which has been carried out for several times in 2015. The program of competency development is designed elaborately, synergizing with the Company’s purpose, one of the ways is knowledge briefing, once in a month.

Meanwhile, one of the ways for indirect communication is internal portal (HITSNet) with email and e-filling features to manage archives.

In 2015, HITS Group employed 820 people, rising from 813 people in 2014.

To anticipate working accident caused by fire, in 2015, there was a fire drill in the working area of HITS Group, Granadi Building. The firemen team from DKI Jakarta Fire Unit also provided explanation on fire evacuation, emergency mitigation actions, and the procedure to use fire blanker, foam, dry powder, and hydrant which employees directly practiced it.

The working safety drills were also conducted onboard which includes Oil Pollution Drill, Abandon Ship Drill, Fire Fighting Drill, Collision Avoidance Drill, Man Overboard Drill, Lifedraft Drill, Safety Education, and Education on Gas Detector. These programs are routinely held to maintain good vessel performance.

 

The management’s policy on social and societal development is an important point in a series of corporate social resposibility event. In 2015, all of HITS’ employees, be it vessel crew or common staffs are Indonesian citizens. Even since 2010, the management has implemented Indonesianization program, i.e. employing local workers for LNG vessel, ranging from the crews to the captain. Previously, the vessel was commanded by foreign worker.

 

As for social program, since 2008 the Company has granted scholarships to children of employees. In 2015, there were 78 children receiving school tuitions and kits. The Company also invited orphans to play and mingle with employees’ children in Kandank Juronk, Ciputat, in the event of scholarship endowment.

In the fasting month, the Company organized a program named ’Ramadhan – Brings Us Closer’ through a series of activities suchas collecting alms through Rumah Zakat, Free Ta’jil on The Road for four days in front of Granadi Building, One Employee One Book contribution to four orphanages, as well as donation to four orphanages in Jakarta and Banten.
